My students need a wide variety of books so they can experience literature as a class, as a book club, and as individuals, to better themselves as learners and people.
My school is made up of over three hundred students who come from wonderful, hardworking families that want the best education for the children. I am determined to provide that for their children any way I can.
These 4th and 5th graders work hard every day to become better students in school and I want to help them achieve that goal.
Part of my job as their teacher is to always ensure that they have the best possible opportunities and materials to help them grow and learn as readers. So I am always looking for ways to ensure this happens. I'm hoping through DonorsChoose.org to achieve this goal.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of books including Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Amulet, Ghost, Muddy Max, and Sisters to name a few for a print-rich environment.
These books are by high-interest authors, such as Raina Telgemeier, Kazu Kibuishi and Wendy Mass to name a few.
Many books cover genres including realistic fiction and graphic novels. With these titles, I will have the books that can reach all possible student reading levels, and I will be able to give my students a print-rich environment.
With more diverse and complete books added to our library, students will have more choices and be more excited about what they are able to read. Students will also be able to take these chapter books home so they can continue their independent reading at home.
We know that becoming a good reader impacts students' education and futures. Allowing students to read books of their own choice is an important step to developing their good reading habits.
