Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students from my school live in one of the highest inner-city poverty areas in not just New York City, but in the entire nation. Many of our students are new English language learners who survive day-to-day and view coming to this public school as a positive way to escape their otherwise less than satisfactory lives. Others don't even have homes to go to!
We try our best.
We provide students with access to after-school programs, necessary technology, often even basic ADL materials, but with major budget cuts, we can no longer afford to fund many student-centered projects and sometimes the even technology is up to teachers to explore and provide.
My Project
Very often I have a student who for whatever reason didn't eat breakfast. I like to have a variety of snacks I can grab to help them eat quickly and get back on track. I aim for healthy snacks that won't make them crash afterwards but will fill them up enough to concentrate on their work.
This has worked so many times before .
I can't tell you how much I appreciate being able to supplement my healthy food stash with generous contributions from Donor's Choose! The Sun Chips are a particular favorite, but the nut free options are crucial for my population.
