My Students

Promoting kindness and instilling a growth mindset are the foundations for my classroom. One of the first books we read is “How Full is Your Bucket?” This inspires kindness from the beginning of the year. When students can show tolerance, patience, and gentleness for peers and adults within the school setting, the classroom is a warm place to spend the day. Students in my class are able to not only show each other how to be kind little people, but encourage their peers with the “I can do it!” attitude of positivity and growth thinking.

When observing my students you may hear phrases such as: “I am going to train my brain,” or “My brain is getting stronger,” and “I believe in the power of yet!”

Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for every student, which means fewer food insecurities and more learning. Students understand they get what they need to be successful and that doesn’t always mean they get the same things. My first graders are confident, “I’ll try anything,” kind, problem solvers, and are happy to come to school each day.

My Project

We have free breakfast and lunch for ALL students but many students come to school late. With a late arrival, the kitchen is closed. I like to have quick foods on hand so no student has to be hungry. My kids know that if they don't get to eat at home, I always have something for them.

Small snacks throughout the day provide nutrients and energy for young children.

Children need several snacks daily because they have small stomachs and they burn a lot of it off during the school day. I give my students two mini snacks per day. I believe healthy snacks keep the students' brains and bodies fed so they are ready to learn. For morning brain food, we usually have a few nuts, peanut butter, and crackers, or whole grain cereal so the children get a bit of added protein. This is reading time and students can wear out quickly, especially if they didn’t get a good night's rest.

With your help, these foods and snacks will last most of the school year. Thank you for your kindness and support of my young, energetic, joyful learners.
