Brain Bins Build Budding Engineers!

Help me give my students Brain Bins filled with unique construction toys and math games to help them build their mathematical fluency and their engineering skills as they "play"!

My Project

My Second Graders are ready for experiences that challenge and build their mathematical thinking in fun and exciting ways! They come from diverse backgrounds, and many of them face additional challenges as non-native English speakers from low-income homes. Research shows that frequent exposure to academic concepts through play reinforces learning and acts as a short-cut to deeper understanding. I want to harness their desire to play with unique engineering-focused toys they may have never seen before and classic math-based games, to encourage repeated practice and experimentation with mathematical and engineering concepts and build fluency and understanding.

Brain Bins containing unique STEM related toys and classic math games will be a daily path to understanding that students will be able to use as part of our Guided Math period.

These activities will be available throughout the year for my mini-mathematicians to use as they complete their math lessons and assignments. They are highly motivating, and will encourage my learners to focus and complete their work efficiently, so that they can move on to "playing" with activities that help them apply and deepen their understanding. The best part is, Brain Bin activities and games will allow kids to simultaneously work and socialize together, making friends and building relationships as they learn in an inviting, relaxing way. Brain Bins will help make math easy, rapidly help them reach their math goals, and make Guided Math their favorite time of day!
