Brain Bikes: Learning in Motion

My Project

My students are an amazing group of teenagers with a variety of disabilities. They have struggled in school for much of their career, and I want to provide them with tools to help them learn and grow.

Numerous studies show a strong connection between physical activity and cognitive function.

Movement increases blood flow to the brain, helping with focus, memory, and self-regulation. Under-desk bikes offer a quiet, practical solution that allows students to stay active without disrupting the learning environment.

This is especially valuable for students who struggle with hyperactivity, anxiety, or attention deficits. Teachers and occupational therapists have reported improved engagement and fewer classroom disruptions when using movement-based tools like pedal bikes.

The goals of this project are to:

* Increase on-task behavior and concentration during instruction

* Provide an outlet for physical energy in a controlled, non-disruptive way

* Support students with ADHD, sensory needs, or emotional impairments

Improve overall classroom climate and student wellness

*Encourage healthy habits and movement without taking away from academic time
