Brain Based Learning: From the Bottom Up

My Project

The students that I serve are outstanding, creative, and brave. They enjoy learning and interacting with their peers on a real level. The students love to make real life connections from their own experiences and try new things. They are an amazing group of young learners.

Having the models of the brain to give students a visual representation of how the brain functions, from the bottom up, when in different states and how the nervous system is affected by the brain states will be a game changer; as will the the curriculum and the read aloud books that teach about a growth mindset.

As the special education teacher for the emotional disturbed program in my school, I have seen an increase in the amount of students who need explicit instruction in how manage daily expectations. The ability to have a growth mindset towards minor setbacks has decreased and students with emotional disabilities, such as anxiety and depression, are struggling.
