My Project

Brain ball combines physical movement with academic learning through play. It was developed by the University School of Physical Education, in Wroclaw, Poland in 2002. It will increase math and spelling scores with my students if I can use it regularly in PE Lessons. There are 40 green and 40 yellow basketballs – each group including the full alphabet, extra key letters, and numbers 0 – 9. Each ball has one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number. There are 20 soccer balls – 8 red, 8 blue, and 4 orange. Each red and blue ball has 2 different math symbols, and the orange balls are blank and are “wildcards.” Not only will it have physical benefits for my students but significant improvement will be seen in gross and fine motor skills and cooperative and cognitive learning with the students at my school.

Brain ball helps increase graphomotor skills and hand-eye coordination in participants.

My students will have better recognition of letters and numbers, improvement in dictation writing, and reading comprehension. I will be able to use it within PE lessons and show classroom teachers how to use it within their lessons as well to improve reading and also writing.

Examples of lessons using a Brain ball:- The teacher places the ball with the number 9 in the center on a rubber ring. The student's task is to form as many mathematical equations as they can using the other balls. They can run down and grab 4 balls and dribble them back. The 4 balls would have a 7, 2, a plus sign, and an equal sign. Another example is Kindergarteners could dribble a ball on poly spots and each time they dribble they have to say the sound of the letter. Relays to find letters for spelling words.
