Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have a strong though underfunded boys volleyball program that serves dozens of young student athletes.
Our school's volleyball program is entering its 40th season since its inception.
The team has enjoyed competitive success despite lacking resources which other more affluent schools have. Nonetheless, our boys learn the fun of the sport and develop physical and social skills that grow over their lifetimes.
My Project
While we are more than an hour away from the nearest beach, our volleyball team has been a source of pride for the school. Numerous championships and awards attest to their competitive spirit and hundreds of boys will have use of the new uniform jerseys during the next decade.
Our students attend a high school which should not be confused with another high school with "Hills" in the name.
We lack the financial resources to replace our team uniforms as frequently as would make sense, so they are stretched to the limit and are now in a state of considerable disrepair. The new uniforms will allow the boys to wear jerseys that are NFHS (National Federation of State High Schools) compliant as they pursue athletic excellence on the hardwood.
