My students are learning math concepts that they will be able to apply in their everyday lives. We are bringing these math concepts to life by using the information we learn and showing how it is used in the real world.
Our school is located in a small, rural town at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains where basic school supplies are limited.
One hundred percent of our elementary school students qualify for free lunch. What our students are lacking in educational materials, we make up for with our vivid imaginations. Our students are applying what they are learning in the classroom and relating it to the real world to understand how it will impact their futures.
My Project
Extracurricular activities not only help enforce team building skills, but they also reinforce better academic performance. Students that play sports have a better attendance rate and fewer disciplinary problems during ball season than they do the rest of the school year. Being part of the basketball team means so much to our players. Many of our boys' basketball team have played together for so long that they view their team as family.
Our basketball coaches hold all the players accountable for their actions on and off of the court.
They are expected to rise above expectations with their behavior and their classwork. Our boys' basketball team are role models for the other students in our school. When they are helpful and kind, other students take notice.
Our boys need new basketballs. The current ones are falling apart at the seams. We expect them to give us their all on and off the court. However, we can't afford to give them what they need in order for them to live up to their fullest potential. We believe in these boys and need your help to get them new basketballs. Practice makes perfect, but it is hard to practice when we do not have the proper equipment, like basketballs, to help them succeed to the best of their abilities.
