Boxing Gear For Improved Social / Emotional Health
My students need an outlet to let out stress in a positive manner. Boxing gear will create an avenue for students to exercise aggressively without hurting anyone or anything.
In the city of Bridgeport, many students display difficulty focusing on instruction for a variety of reasons. For some cases, the disengaged students lack interest in the topic being taught. They do not have any personal experiences that allow them to relate to the content, or they do not see the importance of learning the material. In other cases, the unenthused students lack support systems that are essential for positive academic experiences. They may legitimately desire to improve their learning, but they simply don't know how to.

Teachers in Bridgeport have an amazing opportunity to help students attain skills to overcome urban challenges, but resources are stretched thin and help is needed. The disengagement that students experience significantly hinders their learning, and more resources are needed in order to meet the social / emotional needs of students.
My Project
Students that experience academic struggles are placed into a mentor program to provide them with additional help. However, many of these students do not respond well to additional time in a classroom setting with paperwork. On the contrary, these students would benefit more from 10-15 minutes of vigorous boxing as a means to provide stress relief and return to the classroom refreshed.
It has been proven that regular exercise can significantly improve the cognitive ability and academic performance of adolescents.
An opportunity to engage in boxing exercises will surely influence students to focus more in the classroom. Moreover, some students will inevitably find a genuine passion for the sport and continue to engage in it outside of school.
