Help me give my students dot markers to help with fine motor skills, bowls with attached placemats, and bibs to assist with independence during meal times.
This project expired on December 1, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I teach students with severe/profound cognitive/physical disabilities, as well as students who are medically fragile. My students have a variety of diagnosis, such as: Cerebral Palsy, Seizure Disorder, and Cornelia de Lange Syndrome. In addition, my students are non-verbal and require hand-over-hand assistance to complete tasks. When on community trips, my students utilize wheelchairs or adapted strollers.
My classroom is self-contained.
We are within a Title I middle school within a community. Most of my students are on the list to receive free meals.
Utilizing dot markers assists with working on a variety of skills. They will work on their fine motor skills as someone assists them in holding onto the markers. They can be creative doing art projects. Dot markers are a great way to work on counting. In addition, they can be used to cover spaces during Bingo games.
Having bowls attached to placemats with suction cup bottoms will assist my students in being more independent during meal times.
These bowls are stabilized; which will allow my students to reach into them, without worrying about the bowls moving.
It is important to keep my students clothing clean during mealtimes; large bibs assist with this.
