My Students

I am the proud Social Studies teacher of a diverse group of 162 students at a middle school in Milford, Michigan.

In our classroom, we learn to be historians and immerse ourselves in early American history.

My young historians have incredible minds but are sometimes hindered by their ability to focus. An increasing number of students each year exhibit difficulties in their ability to pay attention. I am hoping this project will help to alleviate their need to move, even as we exercise their minds.

As the mother of a young child who suffers from ADHD, I am always conscious of what I can do, as an educator, to help make the lives of these students easier. We incorporate stretch breaks, replica toys, and movement wherever possible, but this project aims to go even further. It will help, not only my many students with special needs, but regular education students, as well.

My Project

I have a large number of students with special needs. Students who have autism, ADHD, ADD, anxiety, and a host of others would greatly benefit from having this product in my classroom. It allows students to move discreetly, within the confines of a middle school classroom - addressing their need to fidget while not distracting others or making themselves feel noticeable. Bouncy Bands are quiet and they don't distract others. Active students are more productive and spend more time on task when they can move. Students who feel anxious when working enjoy being able to stretch their legs to release their anxiety while they work.
