My Students

As a special education teacher, each of my students is just that: special! Although they have typical kid interests like video games, animals, YouTube, and sports, they are each unique in their strengths, struggles, and personalities. My students work hard and have a great desire to learn despite having a learning disability, autism, traumatic brain injury, emotional disturbance, or other health impairment that affect their academic abilities.

All of my students can be successful in school with the right accommodations and supports.

They have a lot of energy and often struggle to pay attention in class, whether in whole group or small group.

My Project

My students in special education typically struggle to pay attention in class. With repeated failures, they have a hard time staying motivated to learn. They also struggle to pay attention because of their disabilities: autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, etc.

My students need bouncy bands to help get their energy out while sitting in class.

The bouncy bands provide feedback to their muscles as though they are moving and playing, all while staying in their seats. We've seen great success with a few students and need more bouncy bands to help other students as well. The bands will be placed on chairs in the resource classroom as well as in general education classrooms.
