Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As an autistic and ADHD diagnosed educator, I know how hard it can be to focus in the classroom. Especially when you really want to learn. My students know that I will get them moving and doing fun activities, but they have to do the work required by the curriculum.
I know how much they want to work, but how much Bouncy Bands will give them an outlet to be able to do that work.
I teach English and History to two block sets of sixth graders. Two days a week I see them for three ninety minute periods, and the class periods on these block days can be really hard for them to focus on their learning. For students who don't have recess, this is almost impossible for them to focus. I do my best to have fun activities that involve moving, but would like the opportunity to use bouncy bands in my classroom to allow them the chance to bounce their feet while listening, helping them focus.
I also believe that bouncy bands will show my students with ADHD that there are coping mechanisms out there for people like them to be able to effectively do their work. I had to learn the hard way as an adult that there are ways to focus in the classroom, and would love to provide them an opportunity to really absorb the information now so they're ready when they get into high school.
