We have had a rough start to the year but these materials have helped us connect with the students and overall provide a safe space for students to decompress and regulate themselves in order to go back to class and remained focused. Students know exactly where their supplies are, they know they never have to worry if they don't have something. Your support is making a profound impact on their lives, providing nourishment and comfort when they need the most. Our school's official nutrition period begins at 10:08 am, but many students arrive as early as 07:45am or even earlier. As teenagers with growing bodies and minds, they are often hungry throughout the day.\r\nThanks to your generosity, I can now offer them a variety of snacks and sustenance, ensuring they never have to learn on an empty stomach.\r\nThe day of your donation arrived, my students eagerly helped bring up the boxes. If you could ever seen their beaming faces, you'd understand just how much your support means to them. They deeply appreciate that DonorsChoose provides caring individuals like you the opportunity to make a real difference in their lives. Inspired by my success, I am planning a new project to acquire a sewing machine for our classroom. This addition to our college and career lab will allow students to learn clothing design and sewing, adding an engaging, hands-on element to what was previously a less exciting module. I write this note of gratitude to thank you for being a beacon of hope and support for those deserving young people.","fullyFundedDate":1735706954193,"projectUrl":"project/breakfast-is-the-most-important-meal-for/8862926/","projectTitle":"Breakfast is the most important meal for a child.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Harnack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8127697"},{"teacherId":1648412,"projectId":8809993,"letterContent":"Thanks to this project, my students are engaging with reading in ways that were not possible before. The newly added books to our classroom library have opened doors for critical thinking, creativity, and connection. These books introduce key skills such as analyzing nonfiction texts, identifying main ideas, and interpreting different perspectives, all while being engaging and relevant to their lives. By reading these newer titles, students practice comprehension strategies and build vocabulary in an exciting and meaningful context.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is a vibrant and personalized experience. Every day, students spend time choosing books from our color-coded library, not based on reading level, but on the experiences and themes that resonate with them. This system helps students find texts that connect with their interests and identities, making reading more approachable and less intimidating. They also participate in book discussions, write reflections, and complete creative projects inspired by their reading, fostering a community of readers who support one another.\r\n\r\nOne student, who had always claimed to \"hate reading,\" recently discovered a love for nonfiction through one of the new books in our collection. She told me, \"I didn't know books could actually be about things I care about.\" Another student, who struggles with focus and confidence, found solace in a colorful, engaging nonfiction title that sparked his curiosity about science. These moments remind me why this library is so important.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my classroom library now reflects my students' lives and interests, helping them find their own stories while building critical skills. Thank you for making this possible—you've not only added books to shelves but also given my students the tools to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1733164486917,"projectUrl":"project/new-books-for-voracious-readers/8809993/","projectTitle":"New Books for Voracious Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Q","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1648412_orig.jpg?crop=4284,4284,x0,y714&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731092432865","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rachel-kulik"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7241","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":481,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":81,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.6,"schoolId":7241,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Johnnie Cochran Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Johnnie Cochran Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/johnnie-cochran-middle-school/7241"}
