Many teachers have also thanked us for being able to provide fidgets and just a calming space for their students when they are needing a break because they feel deregulated. Students grew plants in the classroom and used the microscope to look at the cells within the plants they'd chosen. When the packages started arriving, the class was ecstatic. Some kids didn't know what to say and just jumped up and down. All the students enjoyed the materials that were sent to us. They had a lot of fun with the fidgeting gadgets and had actually wanted more. By reading these newer titles, students practice comprehension strategies and build vocabulary in an exciting and meaningful context.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is a vibrant and personalized experience. Every day, students spend time choosing books from our color-coded library, not based on reading level, but on the experiences and themes that resonate with them. This system helps students find texts that connect with their interests and identities, making reading more approachable and less intimidating. They also participate in book discussions, write reflections, and complete creative projects inspired by their reading, fostering a community of readers who support one another.\r\n\r\nOne student, who had always claimed to \"hate reading,\" recently discovered a love for nonfiction through one of the new books in our collection. She told me, \"I didn't know books could actually be about things I care about.\" Another student, who struggles with focus and confidence, found solace in a colorful, engaging nonfiction title that sparked his curiosity about science.
