Bouncing with Physics: Investigating Motion and Force

Help me give my students a mini-trampoline to transform our physics lessons into dynamic, hands-on experiences.

My Project

Having a physical trampoline or mini trampoline allows students to engage hands-on with concepts of forces and motion, making abstract physics concepts more tangible. It lets students directly observe and experiment with real-world applications of kinetic and potential energy, force, and acceleration. This trampoline will enable students to measure the forces acting on them as they bounce and to record acceleration data in real-time. This immediate feedback provides a deeper understanding of how force, mass, and acceleration are related, aligning with Newton’s second law.By capturing and analyzing slow-motion footage, students can observe how energy and force fluctuate throughout the jump cycle. This technology makes it possible to calculate velocity, track height changes, and visually demonstrate energy transformations. These will help students better understand the elastic potential energy stored in the trampoline’s springs and how it relates to the force needed to achieve different bounce heights.

Through their trampoline experiments, my students will learn how to conduct scientific investigations and present evidence-based conclusions.

These students are curious, hands-on learners who thrive when they can directly interact with concepts rather than just reading about them. They’re not afraid to take on complex challenges and love experimenting, exploring, and asking questions about the world around them. They have a unique enthusiasm for applying what they learn in the classroom to real-life scenarios, which makes this project particularly valuable for them. I want my students to be creative and natural curiosity make them ideal for this interactive project, as they are eager to bring science to life.
