Ms. Washington from Norfolk VA is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need the ability to move around so they can focus during the day. They are often sitting on their feet or walking around because they can't focus.

Good day!
My classroom is a bustling group of mostly young gentlemen who come to school eager to learn and tell me what they remember from the day before.
We teach rigorous lessons to assist them in learning about the real world and vocabulary to assist them in reading and learning strategies to help them throughout the rest of their academic careers. Math is such a large part of their lives and they love taking notes and feeling like BIG kids when they take out their notebooks.
My class is a great group of scholars who are all receiving free breakfast and lunch. I have 12 boys and 5 girls in my class. We are a Title 1 school, where the majority of my class is African American or Hispanic. They are excited about learning, but rarely can sit still long enough to learn anything. They are like Tigger, bouncing around the classroom trying to learn without getting into trouble. When I let them stand, they are fine but that is short lived because their legs get tired and they want to sit and it starts all over again.
We have used so many things to help my students, altered the height of desks, used pillows so they can sit on the floor. But none of them worked permanently. I had an exercise ball and the boys went ballistic! Everybody wanted to sit on it and I noticed when they say on the exercise ball the work got done and they wanted to sit there so they could focus. But there was only one ball!
What could I do with more active alternative seating?
I would use the seating so the kids can bounce throughout the day giving them the movement they need to focus.
