Bouncing Through Curriculum

My students need 14 yoga balls to use as chairs at their desks to promote focus and rigor in the classroom.

My Students

"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." Tom Hunter Allowing our students to move enhances their focus and desire to learn.

The students in my classroom are Autistic.

Daily, we are working through specific skills both socially and academically. Our students work hard to stay focused, but often need movement to ensure that they stay on track. Our school is in a lower economic area and students are often dealing with other things outside of school that they need our support with. All of our students love to learn and love to be at school.

My Project

With these yoga balls, our students will use them in place of chairs. Research has shown that allowing students the ability for movement enhances their learning potential and increases their attention span. Allowing students this minimal amount of movement keeps them engaged and helps defer from some other forms of distraction.

Having these balls replace seats will allow my students growth both physically and mentally.

A simple environmental change will promote a tremendous amount of growth. Combining two different learning styles increases the students chances of retaining new and old information.
