This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Most of our families live day by day; their sole focus is surviving through to the next day. They stress about where they are going to sleep at night and when they will have their next meal. That being said, education is understandably not always their primary focus. Yet, my students still show up every day and give it their all. They are a brave bunch that never stops fighting to be the best they can be.

My students are eager to learn despite the hardships they face on a daily basis.

Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. The typical student in my class reads at a kindergarten grade level, and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. Even though I'm not able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By creating this project, I'm hoping to inspire my students to become lifelong learners.

My Project

My students need flexible seating to help them focus, fans to stay cool on hot days, books and other materials to enhance their learning and put the finishing touches on our classroom. My students with attention disorders will use the yoga chairs throughout the day to help maintain their focus. I believe giving my students the option of flexible seating will increase their focus and motivation to complete their work. It's also important that students are given a comfortable environment in which to learn. The fans will help to keep our room cool and keep students comfortable. With these additions, my students will be able to learn and focus in class. We also need other materials to help our class run smoothly and to meet my students academic needs.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also help to increase their academic achievement.

Students will be able to focus in class and not have to worry about how uncomfortable their chair is. Plus, having the opportunity to release their energy and be active learners will also help my students focus and increase their knowledge overall.
