Help me give my students be engaged, alert and focused during instruction by providing flexible seating that will allow them to move and bounce while sitting at their table on the balance ball seats I am requesting.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I tell my students we are a family. I am their school mom and they are my school children. I tell them and show them that I expect the same behavior and work habits from them that I expected from my son and my grand sons. I greet them in the morning with a good morning smile. Throughout the day many of them will give me hugs and say "I love you." No matter what challenges they face at home, they know they are in a safe, loving school environment.
My Project
Traditional desks can make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies. Flexible seating encourages students to share both. It encourages them to take turns in different locations and with different seating options. Many flexible seating options stimulate students’ sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD, and ASD. The results – a more active, engaged, enthusiastic, and relaxed room of students – are worth the effort, Almer concluded. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Comfortable students are engaged students.
