Most of the children in our PreK class are not native English speakers. We have children who have not been exposed to educationally rich environments or who spend a majority of their time with their non- English grandparents or babysitters while their parents are at work. Their physical activity is often limited to the three things in the park attached to the school yard - a slide, a swing and a monkey bar if they go to the park at all. They live in small apartments which limit how much stuff they can have. Few have tricycles, bicycles or any items which promote physical activity.
We strive to provide experiences which will enhance, extend and promote educationally meaningful experiences for our children on a daily basis.
To that end, we find that we are in need of more materials than our budget allows due to materials being used, worn, lost or broken by children. In keeping with the early childhood guidelines of ECKERS we respectfully put forth the following list of needed items. Your generosity WILL make a difference in the daily educational experiences of our children. Thank you for your help. We welcome your participation and comments.
My Project
Since many of our children are apartment dwellers the opportunity for them to move is limited as they do not have the space to own large gross motor equipment such as these three wheeled scooters. You'd be surprised to see how many have never tried a tricycle or a scooter and have little strength in their legs. We are trying to expand our gym program and offer items which are novel and develop children's abilities. In addition, we've also added some balls for hand eye coordination of different sizes for variety.
