it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are such a unique group of tiny people! Most are excited to learn, some are apprehensive, their skills vary greatly, as do the things they love about school. However they all walk in with a smile on their face and I want to do all I can to help them love being at school!
I work at a Title I school in Arizona where our whole school population receives free breakfast and lunch.
Despite that many of our students experience all sorts of hardships at home, it is wonderful to see that many of them also enjoy being at school.
As a kindergarten teacher it is especially wonderful to see the amount of growth our students make! They come in with base level knowledge, and just flourish throughout the year. My hope is to give them all they can to continue on and become successful adults.
My Project
My students, as kindergartners, are a naturally wiggly and squirmy bunch. Throughout the year I have noticed how many of them just don't fit the mold of a "traditional" learner, and that they struggle when they're expected to sit still for too long. Many of my kiddos end up putting their feet up on their chair to bounce as they work, or stand and bounce throughout the day as it is.
These stability balls would give my students the chance they need to both choose an active learning position, but also do it in a safe way.
They would also help us continue building our flexible seating classroom! Children were never meant to sit perfectly still for seven hours each day, so a donation towards this project will both help them choose their best learning position, as well as set them up for feeling successful in their school career!
