Bounce Back From Distractions

My students need 25 exercise balls to provide an outlet for excess energy as well as to improve posture and strengthen their core muscles.

The number of children with attention-related disorders is rising at an alarming rate. Many of these children struggle to sit still and stay focused, and many of their parents are desperate for ways to aide their children without the use of medication. My school is a low income school, with many students not receiving proper nutrition or adequate exercise, which contributes to the number of students in my room with attention related disorders. I teach fourth grade and love every minute of it, but I am concerned about the focus and health of many of my students.

I would like to provide an opportunity for them to become more active through the use of exercise balls. I have one that I keep behind my desk, and my students show an avid interest in it, often begging me for a chance to sit on it as they work.

I have noticed that as they sit on my exercise ball, their focus increases as they enjoy the freedom to move about a little bit, bouncing back and forth on the ball. If done on a regular basis, even simply sitting on the ball will provide many wonderful benefits, including better posture and a strengthening of their core muscles, in addition to allowing them to get out the "wiggles" in an appropriate fashion.

This is where you come in! You can help make a difference in my students' life, both mentally and physically! Their focus can increase, and for some, the physical activity that bouncing on an exercise ball provides will be the only exercise they get outside of P.E.
