Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students are migrants. They come from hard-working farmers. Over half of the students in our school are minorities.
Energetic, creative, and resilient are the attributes that best describe our students.
They enter the room with an energy for leaning about art. Their energy is so strong that it often energizes me.
I have been so honored to have seen these students grow as I was some of the students' art teacher through their elementary school years.
Ever so many of my students come from migrant and lower-income homes. My students come into my classroom with smiles on their faces and always ask me the same question "What are we doing today?" This is why I consider them resilient. We have just been faced with the trauma of Hurricane Irma and yet they still enter my room with a new reliance of creating and moving forward.
My Project
My classroom is in need of 5 more stools to complete a classroom set of 30 chairs. We have been using regular chairs to replace the missing art stools but the chairs create a bit of a problem.
The first and foremost problem with using the chairs is the fact that they are too short for the tables.
The students sit so low in the chairs that it becomes uncomfortable for them to create their art. These stools will elevate the students to a more comfortable seated position thus creating a more pleasant experience in art.
The second reason for the need for these stool is that it will create an ambiance of unity in the classroom as all the seating in the room will match.
