Bottling Up the Earth

Help me give my students live specimens so they can create a bottle biosphere.

My Project

Students at our school are full of wonder for the earth and the creatures that live on this planet. Covid-19 has made it difficult for them to gain hands-on experience with live creatures on our planet in an educational setting. Elodea plants will give students a hands-on look into photosynthesis. Combining these plants with the snails and rocks into a bottle, they will experience hands-on how cellular respiration, photosynthesis, the water cycle, and the geosphere all work together to keep the biosphere alive. This will also help students learn empathy by carefully caring for these living specimens. The filter will be added to our class aquarium to keep the live specimens alive while students build their bottle biosphere.
