My students love coming to school. They are excitable, hungry for knowledge, and ready to do their best EVERY DAY! My students love our classroom. They love to learn in a warm, friendly, safe environment that nurtures their abilities and needs while engaging their minds. They are eager to learn and love coming to school so they can be empowered and successful in life.
I teach at a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
We even have a supper program for our families. Due to the low SES of our community, I feel a strong responsibility to bring as many resources as I can to my students. I am grateful that Donorschoose.org has afforded me the opportunities to expose my students to amazing resources.
My Project
Imagine going to school and your teacher has an amazing, hands-on lesson for you in which you will use critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and work cooperative with your friends. That’s the kind of classroom I want to build for my students using Nintendo Labo. My kids tell me all the time they play video games at home and they wish they could do the same at school. Using the switch system, I will be able to transform unique parts of their educations for them to learn HOW to code and create different games using the Labo.
Computer science and coding are life skills for any child growing up in today's society.
So, in addition we would love Botley the robot. Botley the Robot is an INCREDIBLE coding tool that is specifically developed for young students. Botley has a special way of communicating with various voices and motions which grabs students' attention while teaching them how to create simple, effective coding rules. Using Botley with my second grade learners will give them an opportunity to use a great tool for connecting them to their interests, use critical thinking, and engage in cooperative learning with their peers!
