My Students

The students in my class attend an urban school district with limited financial resources. Most of the students receive​ free or reduced-price lunch. Many of them have experienced crime in their lives and find it difficult to come to school. It can be overwhelming to know how to help. They are sweet kids with big dreams. They dream of learning, being successful athletes, helping their families, and reaching their full potential.

Many of these students must overcome obstacles such as poverty and uncertain home situations.

A high-quality educator can make a significant difference in a student’s life. When I look at my students, I see unlimited possibilities. Overall, my students living in poverty are just like other children, but they can encounter limitations and barriers that make it harder to learn, including students whose first language is not English. My main goal is to give each student the chance to have success in school and beyond.

My Project

These items will tremendously aid students with reading and writing instruction. The comprehension workbooks with help me to assess quickly if my students are understanding content. The magnetic teaching charts and posters will aid in comprehension. Chart paper is essential for help readers understand topics. We create anchor charts for the students to view and utilize for later discussion and clarification.

These items are important needs for fifth grade reading classrooms, and with sponsorship, parents will not have the financial responsibility of purchasing these classroom items for their children.
