Eager and energetic children enter my classroom every day. My students are beginner English language learners where Spanish is their Native Language. We are a Title I school with the largest bilingual population in our county, Kg-4th grade. All of our students receive free lunch. I am determined to meet the needs of all my students and provide a rich curriculum and classroom culture in which all will thrive.
I know all of my students can succeed if they are given the proper tools.
Recently, with the devastation of Hurricane Maria, our school has greatly impacted our school community. These students are precious and an added bonus to our classroom community. I'm looking to build strong literacy skills in my scholars, while being sensitive about their current state back home.
As kindergartners grow, so do their reading skills. Many kindergartners come into school not knowing many letters or sounds. By the end of the year, they are reading books on a Kindergarten level. A huge growth is seen in students' first year of school. The leveled library will help my students build oral reading fluency because it strictly adheres to their individual reading level.
My desire is to help each student to realize that they can read.
I also desire to build up the confidence of all of my students. I have seen a gain in my class already, and can only imagine that it will get better when we have the necessary resources to make this happen.
