This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Neuroscientists have now concluded with over 40 years of scientific research, that learning to play a musical instrument is the only activity we do as humans that engages the entire brain at once, resulting in higher levels of executive thinking, creating avenues in the brain that do not happen without the actions of learning to play a musical instrument.
In our community musical learning opportunities in the arts are scarce, and so the kids have very limited opportunities to explore and discover the amazing world that music is.
Our community is low income, it is extremely difficult for students to travel to other parts of the city to take music lessons.
The students will learn, practice, and present their musical learning in many ways, in whole-group and small-group settings. From learning simple melodic movements following traditional children's songs to learning more complex music that requires a lot of guidance, reading, teamwork, and practice.
