My Project
BVVTH, a hands-on learning environment, has just begun a brand new band program with unexpected high demand in its first year of existence! Students spend four years learning a trade and have many "tools" in the trade. However, we need tools for our musicians - instruments! With a focus on outfitting a percussion section, these students NEED "tools" in order to participate in band. Thankfully, we have had generous in-kind donations from the community already (instrument maker, families, teachers), but we are lacking percussion instruments making it extremely difficult for percussionists to gain the experience needed to continue studying music. Not only will students be learning rhythmic-percussion instruments, but also they will be learning pitched-percussion (note-reading) as well as world-percussion instruments, expanding the repertoire to ALL types of music to be performed!
By purchasing the instruments in this project, students will be exposed to EVERY genre of music and every student will be able to participate without taking turns on the limited instruments we have.
Since percussion instruments are valued so high, we are unable to purchase this many this school year, limiting the music students perform and WHO gets to perform. All students should have equitable opportunities in a public school, and having an expanded percussion section will allow every percussionist (now AND the future) to be able to play in band..and one day marching band, pep band, jazz band - opening the door to endless possibilities!
Our students are special at BVVTH because they know the dedication and commitment it takes to their trade to truly be skilled at their craft. My musicians are no different: they hone their skills and realize the dedication it takes in the arts world as well as their vocation, treating band like their second vocation.
