Bookshelves for Our Classroom Library

Help me give my students a classroom library that is welcoming, easily accessible, and space-efficient.

My Project

Our school runs on a block schedule with 100-minute class periods. These longer periods more easily allow time for independent reading, so we regularly start class with 15-20 minutes of independent reading where students get to choose any book (their own book or one from our classroom library). Students read classics, fantasy novels, poetry collections, realistic fiction, graphic novels, and nonfiction on various topics, to name a few. I have a growing book collection for students to choose from, but with the number of books I have, the collection has outgrown the space I have to display them for students.

Getting this project funded would allow me to display every book in our classroom library and create a library space that students WANT to visit all year long.

The shelves rotate a full 360 degrees, making it easy for students to see all the available titles, and their design takes up minimal floor space, which is crucial in a full classroom with limited space. Two of the bookshelves will function as the classroom library for students, and the third bookshelf will house my instructional and pedagogical resources.

I have been so impressed by the level of interest in independent reading students have demonstrated thus far, and this project will help to enrich their experiences with reading even further.
