This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 6 middle school Language Arts classes. The student count in the groups range between 25-35. They face many challenges due to the number of students in the class and lack of resources in the classroom.
My students come from a very diverse community and low income area.
There are students from over 47 different countries that live in the school district where I teach. They love working in cooperative groups where they can share ideas that arise from different cultural viewpoints being brought to the texts that they are reading.
My Project
The purpose of the bookshelf is to display books that they students have read and would recommend to others. In the past, this has increased outside reading done by my students. In my current classroom, I do not have anywhere to display them due to a large table which I need to use for my laptop. By getting the mobile laptop cart, I can relocate the current table which would give me room to display to books. In the end, I hope to increase the number of students who can see books that their classmates have read and increase their love and joy of reading.
