My Project

This project will bring a collection of diverse books into our classroom library — stories that represent a variety of cultures, abilities, family structures, languages, and experiences. These books will include characters of different races, ethnicities, religions, as well as characters navigating disabilities, learning differences, and mental health challenges.

Adding these titles will help students:

See themselves in the books they read

Build empathy by stepping into others’ shoes

Understand and celebrate the rich diversity of our world

Engage in meaningful conversations about identity, kindness, and inclusion

These books will be used during independent reading, classroom discussions, and social-emotional learning lessons connected to our Character Strong curriculum.

The Impact:

Representation in literature matters. When students find characters who look like them, live like them, or face similar challenges, it validates their experiences and builds confidence. When students read stories different from their own, it broadens their understanding of the world and fosters empathy.

This project will help create a classroom library where every child feels seen, valued, and respected.
