Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade students come from various cultural backgrounds and live in a diverse community in an inner city. Many come from low income homes and/or speak English as a second language. They come to school with inquisitive minds and a desire to learn. We set our learning goals weekly and work hard together to achieve them. My students are engaged and strive to be the best they can be. Each day presents new opportunities to share their love for learning in many creative ways. Providing each student with the best possible environment to maximize their learning experience is of great importance in helping to attain each students' goals.

It is important for this population of students to have access to materials that help support the curriculum that they are learning and are able to take these materials home to work with their parents.

My Project

My students have a wide range of reading levels and I would like to have a broad range of reading materials for students to take home and practice reading, as well as fostering a love of reading at their independent levels. Students would be provided with fiction and nonfiction books to take home weekly which will help to promote a home school connection and encourage parents to read to and with their children.

Most struggling readers do not have the materials they need at home to reinforce what they are being taught in school such as phonemic awareness, phonics, and comprehension.

Being able to take books home will give my students a sense of ownership and responsibility!
