My students with special needs are excited to learn each and every day. Our school is located in a small, rural community that just was honored by Newsweek for "Beating the Odds." Many of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program.
My students with special needs face many challenges but work hard to learn and grow each day.
Providing my students with as many engaging opportunities to learn is of the utmost importance to me, so they can meet their goals and take pride in their learning.
My Project
My students with special needs struggle with reading and are not confident readers. Providing my students with books that are high interest but low readability can give them the confidence and support they need to be able to read more independently for fun. This project will give us a variety of books at the K-5 level to meet all of my students' needs.
My students need lots of support and encouragement to read during their daily work, but most would not choose to read for fun or independently.
I hope to change that. These books would create an environment where my students can get excited about reading and not always view it as work.
