Books to Love, for Kids With Heart

My Students

My students may be small, but they abound with joy and curiosity! I teach second grade in a high-poverty Title I school, where kids arrive eager to learn and gain an understanding of the world around them. In addition to students with learning disabilities, I have many English Learners and children who are refugees from war-torn countries. This diversity calls for engaging teaching resources to meet students' unique academic needs.

In our classroom, kids collaborate and support each other regardless of their differences.

As an inner-city school, our resources are limited, so we are grateful for any extra support we receive from the community and beyond.

My Project

This past year has presented many challenges for our students, and I'm excited that now we will be back at school, in person, together again at last! I want to make sure that my students' social and emotional needs are met, along with their academics.

These books for our class library will encourage students' love of reading, while offering stories that reinforce themes of kindness, resilience, and empathy.

There's nothing quite so wonderful and calming as holding a beautiful book in your hand, in a cozy classroom, surrounded by friends. We'll read these together, and the books will also be available for kids to enjoy again and again on their own during reading time.
