My students love to see characters that look like them when they read. It makes them so happy to be able to connect with the characters in the books that are in our class library. I want to spark the joy of reading by reading books that my students love. Giving them stories with characters who may be feeling the same things they are feeling may help them cope with the things they experience daily. We also need a printer to be able to print some of the stories the students write themselves.
When students see themselves in books, it helps to inspire them to want to be like the characters they read about.
It is important for me to instill in my students that they can be and do anything they put their minds to and books are a great way to bring this home for children.
