My Students
Second grade is such a wonderful year of learning. We have so many different types of learners with many different needs. I have had the privilege of teaching students with Autism, Gifted and Talented, students with ADHD, students who receive Speech and Language Services, and students who are considered typically developing. We have a diverse set of needs that need to be met every day.
My students have unique traits and backgrounds and when we come together they make our classroom feel like a family.
I am so excited for the learning that my students will show this year. They will learn to take time to do quality work and let their effort shine. These kids come from families who support and nurture their creative drive and give them the tools they need to be successful later in their education and life.
My Project
Second graders are at the age where reading really starts to take off. They get SO excited to get chapter books in their hands, and I want to make sure that our classroom library is filled with "big kid books" that they want to read. Over the years I have found that kids fall in love with reading when they find a series they really connect with.
Our classroom library currently has several single chapter books, but we are lacking in book series.
I am asking for some second-grade series to keep that reading momentum growing. Having several stories about their new favorite characters will help them continue to grow their love for reading, as well as improve their reading stamina and fluency capabilities.
Not all second graders are ready to read chapter books on their own yet, so I am also requesting some chapter books for classroom read aloud time that I would be reading to students, modeling appropriate fluency.
