My Project

The books in this project were chosen to connect specifically to my students and their interests. In my English classroom I want to promote a lifelong love for reading. Students are given the opportunity to read any book of their choosing for at least 15 min. a day, but they often have trouble finding a book that interests them in our school library. Over the years I have had a great classroom library; however, because of relocating, I could not move my entire library. I need some newer titles to revamp and freshen up the classroom library. Allowing students to access books directly from my classroom that actually interest them is a huge step in fostering a love of reading.

My students, who are from various cultures and span the socioeconomic ladder, want to see themselves represented in the books they read.

They want characters that have similar passions or deal with challenges that mimic their own. The books on this list have been selected for this purpose. I am excited to see their passion for reading grow when I receive these books and place them in the hands of the right kids.
