Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my 8th grade English classes have a wide range of abilities and skills. Some are special education students, while others are English language learners or gifted students.

The students in all my classes are all amazing, but they sometimes don't have the resources that students in wealthier communities take for granted.

Things such as art supplies, access to computers and printers at home, and books for independent reading are some of the items that my students lack.

My Project

Multiple studies show that students who read the most become the best readers, and the better students read the better they do in ALL of their classes. To that end, students at our school are expected to maintain an independent reading program. The problem is that our school does not currently have a working library. I have developed my classroom library over the years with my own money, so that students have high interest, age appropriate books to choose from, but I'm no longer able to do that. Having a donor help out so that students have new, high quality books in the classroom that they actually want to read would be wonderful!
