Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so excited to be teaching at my new charter school in Los Angeles. This is my first year of teaching in California and I am looking forward to having a great year with my second graders. I just moved from New York, and am a Teach for America alum. The school year has already begun at my school, and I can tell that my students are very enthusiastic readers.
I am requesting books for the library! It's a simple, but hugely important request. The library in our classroom will not be sufficient for the whole school year. My entire reading curriculum is based on the Teachers College workshop model, in which students improve their reading by reading books they select from the library (as opposed to reading from textbooks).
It's a great curriculum, but it requires a LARGE library, one that is specific to my students' individual needs. I am very particular about selecting QUALITY books that represent a variety of genres, reading levels, interests, and authors.
