This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My library services 500 students in both regular and bilingual classes. They love reading, coding, adventure, and learning. Whether it's through recommending them their next favorite book, teaching them a new robot move, or the excitement of a new invention, I try to make the library a sanctuary of exploration and inspiration.

Our students are curious and energetic young minds looking for opportunities to be readers, creators, and inventors.

Our elementary school is one of the largest elementary schools in our school district. We are a Title I school and over half of our students come from low-income homes, which means they often don't have the opportunities and resources available to higher-income families.

My Project

These books will ensure we have enough books so that our students can compete in Wisconsin's annual Battle of the Books competition. This is a program that students join and we read books together for the first half of the school year. Multiple copies of the books are needed for students to check out from the library so that they can read them.

We are creating a fun, low stakes book club for students to experience reading personally and as part of a team.

The Battle Books are chosen by Wisconsin librarians and include multiple award winners (Caldecott, Golden Archer and more). These books will help us start what will become and annual reading group and all books will be available for check out in our library for years to come.
