Books To Blaze The Learning Trail

My students need series fiction and nonfiction books such as Judy Moody, Arthur, Mallory and Who Was to read during reading workshop.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever had that feeling of reading a great book and discovered that you wanted more, more, more of that character and series? My students are often left frustrated because they do not have the books to continue reading a series.

My Students: We are a class of 96% beginning to intermediate ESL students with a focus and passion to learn and create.

My hope is that I can guide my students and continue developing their love for books and school. Our resources are limited, and we need your help. This is a third grade class that is located in New York City. The students come from low income housing and have extremely limited resources. Our elementary school has grades K-4 and houses over 1,100 students. Quality books have become difficult to acquire.

My Project

I am asking for certain fiction books so that I can utilize them as mentor texts and read alouds when teaching my students. Other series books such as the Mallory, Arthur and Judy Moody I am requesting so that the students can read these books in partnerships. This coming year my school has four reading units dedicated to partnership reading and I want to teach them how to retell, identify the story elements and most importantly express their thoughts about the books to their reading partners.

The focus for the 2011-2012 school year will be book conversations.

I can think of nothing greater than reading a great book and just bursting at the idea of talking about that book with someone who has also read it. Book partnerships inspire students to read, share ideas, theories, grow as readers and develop social skills. I can teach them all of these skills but I can't do it without your generous support.
