Help me give my students some great books and a place to read them!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are intelligent, engaged, passionate learners. Where they are given room to explore ideas in their reading, writing, and research, they flourish! Many are at a special turning point where they are asking “Why?” And looking at the world and their inner selves for the answers. Traditional education doesn’t normally support this search, but I find that self-selected books help. Reading about people with both similar and different experiences, and finding truths in books often interrupt expectations because they create questions that lead to more questions. This search is vital.
My students are developing their interests and passions in a way that will take them beyond the classroom after high school.
They are interested in the world at large, and in social justice. They want to know how to make the world a better place.
My Project
In my classroom, we read every day. Having current, fresh books in my classroom library goes a long way to helping students select a book easily. Also, having stories that my students can relate to or see themselves in is very important. There are lots of great works of fiction that are complex and engaging and have been written in the past few years. I'd like to infuse my classroom library with some new titles, a new cozy seat, and a space-saving bookshelf. I'm looking forward to a fresh start this year, and this is a cornerstone part of it. Thank you!
