My Project

I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that serves many Navy and Army families in Hawaii. The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our preschool through sixth-grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. My students come to the library twice a month for library visits where they borrow books for academic and recreational purposes.

I'd like to purchase books for my early readers to read independently.

For the first goal for this project, I would like to update my beginning reading section with series books such as "Princess Truly", "Unlimited Squirrels", and "Shark and Bot". These books have repetitive vocabulary to build success and encourage literacy and reading.

My second goal is to provide copies of just released graphic novels in this project. These will be promoted with my upper grade students for independent reading and for other classroom lessons.
