My students need various books such as "How Much Can a Bare Bear Bear?" and "Straight and Curvy, Meek and Nervy" that teach vocabulary and character development along with supplies such as paper and a pencil sharpener to make projects based on these books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you ever remember reading a book and learning something that you didn't know? Books are so powerful that they can take you to places that you have never been before. The right book can teach you lessons about life and learning through memorable stories that can be applied to real life situations.
I teach three 5th grade classes at a Title I low income community school in Florida.
Over 97% of the students at my school receive free or reduced lunch on a daily basis. I find myself purchasing most of the basic supplies for my students so that they are equipped with the necessary supplies to be able to learn. These students come from diverse populations and include students that are learning to speak English and students reading well below grade level. Many of the students come from homes in which the primary caregiver must work multiple jobs to support the family and therefore have little time to emphasize the importance of education. This makes the job of the teacher even more difficult.
My Project
It is my goal to teach my students the best way possible and to instill in them a love for reading and learning so that they will continue to want to educate themselves in the future. This project will provide my students with books that discuss important vocabulary skills such as prefixes and books that touch on important topics such as "The Sneetches" by Dr. Seuss which talks about diversity and accepting one another despite our differences. These books will facilitate intercultural sensitivity amongst a diverse student population and promote vocabulary development that will help the students better comprehend what they are reading. The additional supplies will alow students to create projects to demonstrate what lesson they were able to learn from each book.
These 5th grade students deserve the best education possible and through your donation they will be provided with wonderful books that will increase their vocabulary and teach them important life lessons such as understanding and accepting the cultural differences among their peers.
These lessons will help to guide them in the future so that they may succeed no matter what life brings.
