Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When engaging with culturally relevant texts that deal with the issues that affect them, students' attitudes change. In September, many students come to my classroom with a pre-conceived idea that they dislike reading and writing. Often, this idea changes when they are presented with material that they can identify with.

My students fall in love with the stories of struggle and perseverance.

I hope they will be able to take these stories and use them to find their voice as youth that have so much to share with the world but are often not given the opportunity to do so. I also hope that having access to these books will allow students to develop the language skills in grammar, reading comprehension, and critical thinking that will allow them to succeed in college and beyond.
