Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a group of energetic scholars. They are eager learners who are ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. They are young people that simply need the resources to stimulate their creative minds.

With support from hard-working families, my students have to balance their rigorous academic work while navigating through the challenges of distance learning while living through a pandemic.

Regardless of the issues they face on a daily basis, they have goals, drive, and most importantly, they are hungry for knowledge. They possess great aspirations for change in their neighborhood, our country, and the world.

My Project

When engaging with culturally relevant texts that deal with the issues that affect them, students' attitudes change. In September, many students come to my classroom with a pre-conceived idea that they dislike reading and writing. Often, this idea changes when they are presented with material that they can identify with.

My students fall in love with the stories of struggle and perseverance.

I hope they will be able to take these stories and use them to find their voice as youth that have so much to share with the world, but are often not given the opportunity to do so. I also hope that having access to these books will allow students to develop the language skills in grammar, reading comprehension, and critical thinking that will allow them succeed in college and beyond.
