I teach 25 amazingly creative 4th and 5th graders in an urban setting. Our school is very diverse. From economic to family and ethnic diversity, we celebrate everyone. We are also an inclusive school, which means that every class has children with special needs. We teach a peaceful approach to learning together and celebrate our differences.
My students are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners.
They are mini sources of inspiration to themselves and others around them, even if they don't know it yet. They are budding ambassadors, world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers. They are our future, and I want to give them a great start to their long, successful careers.
My Project
Every now and then, you come across a book that challenges conventions, parts with predictability and — as a result — alters your perceptions of the world around you. Maybe the characters are intensely complicated. Maybe the writing is refreshingly raw, or maybe the author was brave enough to write the story that needs to be told.
These books don’t always make it to the top of bestseller lists and they’re not often displayed neatly on library bookshelves.
They’re not necessarily warm and fuzzy, and they push your thinking .
Every one of these books will not only help my students practice their reading skills, but also learn about the world and question it!
