This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our vibrant kindergarten classroom, every child brings a unique background, voice, and story to share. My students are curious, imaginative, and full of wonder. Many of them are English Language Learners, and several are navigating learning with IEPs or disabilities. We are a Title 1 classroom filled with diversity, resilience, and love for learning.
Books are one of the most powerful tools I use to support language development, build empathy, and spark deep classroom conversations.
However, many of our current books do not reflect the diverse cultures, languages, and interests of my students—or connect clearly to our grade-level learning themes.
This project will provide:
Culturally responsive books that celebrate a variety of identities and experiences
Content-aligned books that support our curriculum in science, social studies, and SEL
High-interest books that my students have specifically asked for, encouraging a love of reading
When my students see themselves in the pages of a book—or get excited about a story that connects to what we’re learning—they feel seen, valued, and empowered to grow as readers and thinkers.
